Donald Brooks launched his main label in 1964, added a Boutique line in 1971, and then closed up shop completely in 1973. This wonderful Donald Brooks coat is from his first, main line. The fabric and print are amazing. That huge splash of floral across that coat give it such drama and yet it is still pretty and chic. The lines are a nod to the classic double breasted trench and that fabric is just fantastic. The shape and flared line are all created by the seaming. The bodice of the coat is cut to be fitted with long sleeves and a huge rounded collar. The waist curves in and it has its original belt that you can cinch to add even more shape and then the lower part of the coat gradually flares out. It works equally as well without the belt so you have the option of using it or not. Big matte black buttons run down the front in a double row and each sleeve has two smaller version as decorations. I love the flapped top set pocket details on each hip. The perfect finish is the quilting to the cotton fabric - the entire thing is top stitched in horizontal rows of black thread from top to bottom. What an extraordinary piece. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a red silk crepe. It closes with the double row of buttons down the front, with each cuff having two decorative buttons that are slightly smaller. The belt shows wear to the leather backing but presents as excellent condition from the front
